If you are not signed up with the Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare system (locations listed below), you have five years to sign up after leaving the military to get free services that you have earned. Once you have been out for five years it may be difficult to get into the system, contact your local county veterans service officer to complete the required paperwork. To find out more about veterans benefits available in Wisconsin see the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs website. Veterans Centers (locations listed below) provide free mental health counseling for veterans and are not directly affiliated with the VA if you don’t want to go to the VA. They are available during normal business hours and can schedule appointments outside those hours if needed. They can also help you find a mental health practitioner in your area.

DryHootch is our name for a safe, alcohol-free meeting space for veterans to come to for camaraderie similar to what many veterans get from veterans organizations. Our vision is an informal setting where veterans can relax, connect with other veterans, and learn about services available to veterans and their families. To do this, DryHootch is set up like a coffeehouse, complete with great coffee (first cup free to vets!!) and comfortable chairs.
